Staying in touch with family and friends abroad can be expensive. When you send them credit, they can call or message you too, so you share the cost.
What does calling abroad cost?
That depends on your provider and plan: often a starting fee and a price per minute, which can be high to mobile numbers abroad. Check your own provider for current rates. Calling over the internet (WhatsApp, Signal, Viber) is cheaper, but needs data.
Why send credit or data?
Many people abroad have a prepaid phone. With credit or a data bundle from you they can call, go online and video call you for free through apps.
